Situated in the southwest of the province of Lugo, Palas del Rei is an important village of the Camino, the end of the penultimate according to the Codex Calixtinux. It belongs to A Ulloa region. In the west is located the Carerón mountain range, which its highest peak is the hill with the same name with 797 m.

One of the monuments most important is the Pambre castle, built in 1375 by Gonzalo de Ulloa.

Is interesting the San Tirso church, which conserves an interesting Romanesque entrance from the 12th century. 

The San Salvador de Vilar de Donas church was named National Monument in 1931. Built in yhe 12th century, is has a Romanesque style and was part of one monastery now disappeared. 

The territory of this council is full of Celtic forts, Romanesque churches, feudal buildings which inspired the famous Galician writer, Emilia Pardo Bazán, in her work “Los pazos de Ulloa”.

The pilgrim has a flat way until Santiago, because the descent of 560 m in altitude where is located Palas de Rei, in a descending way until arrive at an altitude of 300 m where is situated Compostela.
